Morning no-brainer

Apparently, I’m not so good in the mornings. I love them and all, but apparently my brain can’t function well…but I did learn three very important lessons today when I did my first ever super-early-pre-church workout!

refga

1. Breakfast means getting up earlier. Especially if you want Pancake Sunday! Otherwise you’ll just have to go with the cereal+banana combo, cos that’s all you’ll have time for…

Optimum blueberry and cinnamon flax cereal+coconut milk and banana

Still yummo of course, but nothing beats pancakes on Pancake Sunday.

2. Pack gym bag the night before. That way you won’t be running around in the dark throwing clothes everywhere because you can’t find the capris you live in normally…and then couldn’t find in the end anyway.Nike-Be-Fast-Womens-Nylon-Training-Capris-412628_010_A

3. Don’t forget to shave your legs. Because you will be forced to wear your Nike Tempos with hairy legs

You can breathe, I'll spare you the close-up! 😛

Ooops.DSC06648

Despite all that, I had an AMAZING workout, with the my hardest ever treadmill run! I opted for a 30 min pre-set hill session, and it was so hard that after 10 mins I had to reduce my speed to 8 min/mile!DSC06651

The incline climbed up to 7% TWICE, which is way more than I’ve ever done before, and held it there for a few minutes! The second time round I almost died. It was SO awesome, and totally kicked my ass! I was dripping sweat, which combined with the Super Hairy Legs must have made for one helluva attractive sight! And I can’t wait to tackle it again next week! Open-mouthed smileDSC06653

I cooled down on the elliptical for a bit, then sprinted to get changed in time for church. No, I didn’t shower until after the service. So everyone hated me for that, and for *quietly* munching away during the service…

I’m one of those weird cool people that eat all the time. Even when just walking from place to place, I usually have food in my mouth. But next time I think it might be wise for me to swap the CRUNCH bar for a banana or something next time though…funnily enough eating that bar quietly wasn’t very successful…!Smile with tongue out

In other news, I USED MY FOOD PROCESSOR FOR THE FIRST TIME!! Wahoo! After about half an hour of serious confusion, I managed to work out out how to turn it on. Actually, that’s a lie. I got help, and it was as simple as screwing on the bowl properly. What can I say, I’m a bright kid.Light bulb

And can you guess what is going to be my Special Monday Breakfast tomorrow? I’ll give ya a hint:DSC06664

Can’t wait! Open-mouthed smile

Dinner was also amazing!!

DSC06670

Hummus in a WW wrap, roasted bnut squash and Eazy-Cheezy Scrambled Tofu

Eazy-Cheezy Scrambled Tofu

  • 1/3 block firm silken tofu (I used Mori-Nu)
  • A few sprays of EVOO oil
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1.5-2 tbsp nutritional yeast flakes
  • 1 tsp paprika, or spices of your choice
  1. Put the tofu into a small pan, and chop into small pieces. Spray tofu and pan with oil.
  2. Add everything else, stir, turn up onto a medium heat, and sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Enjoy!!

This was delicious! I loved adding the paprika to give it a little kick! SmileI also went back for more squash, and ended up eating pretty much the whole thing! And it was a big’un too! Feeling just a little over-fibred now! Disappointed smileNo regrets though…too darn YUMMY!DSC06673

Are you good in the mornings? I love mornings, because it’s breakfast time (<—best time of the day!!), but my brain doesn’t actually switch on until about mid morning!

If you’re a runner, do you do hill runs? I’ve only started doing them recently, after reading how beneficial they are for your running! But up until last week I was too chicken! Hills scared me (and still do a bit! Smile with tongue out). I now incorporate a hilly run and hill sprints into my schedule.

gre.

And  what are you looking forward to this week? I’m looking forward to experimenting with my processor! A hummus recipe coming up soon! I’ll also be making my own Dark Chocolate Dreams! Open-mouthed smile

Have a great week friends!!

P.S. I changed my Twitter username a fortnight ago, and forgot to mention it!! It seems to be causing some confusion still! It’s @SweetToothRunnr now for when you wanna chat 🙂

  1. Hello! haha your post just reminded me of my day. I was also munching on a larabar on my way to gym and had a banana with my breakfast (gosh it caused me stomachaches though).
Anyways, good for you that you can run on hills! I mean, although I do run once in a while, hills are just deadly! I just walk on hills. Oh, and don’t forget to try making your own nut butters with your food-processor!

  2. HOLY HILL WORKOUT! You are strong! I had to stop multiple times when attempting a workout like that–legs felt like lead! 😦

I love love morning workouts. Means I’m a nicer person the rest of the day!

  3. Tomorrow is OIAJ day for me too with my Mighty Maple jar, but my Dark chocolate dreams is almost out as well! Great hill workout! I never do hills on the treadmill because my whole state is filled with hills and mountains. I can find huge hills anytime I run outside. The mountains are also awesome to go hiking!

  4. That’s the blender I’ve got – and the first thing I made was Dark Chocolate Dreams…! Great minds… 🙂
I’m definitely NOT a morning person either.

  5. Fibre Food Baby – check.
Dark Chocolate Dreams PB – check.
Hill runs – never, no, hate them!
Eatiing all the time – check.
    Gingerbread Nakd bar – check.
    Butternut squash – check.
    We lead similar lives ;p

  6. I am a big morning person, especially in the summer when the sun is shining so bright at 5.30am. And also because breakfast is my favourite meal of the day too! 😛

  7. Your soft serve looks amazing!! I’m not a morning person at all, unfortunately. I have to wake up at 6:40 am just to make it to work on time, and there’s no way I’d be able to work out in the morning before that. 😦

  8. I’m making that tofu scramble at some point this week! It looks absolutely amazing – Enough said 🙂

  9. hehe, I always get so excited when my Dark Chocolate Dreams is almost finished 🙂

  10. I have become a morning person now that I always work out before work. But my brain doesn’t switch on until I am on the treadmill. I also just started doing hill workouts. I love the challenge, and I think I’ll be in much better marathon running shape when it’s all said and done.

Ha! I had the exact same experience with my food processor! I was convinced it was broken…oops.

  11. Average pace: 5 minute miles?!?!?!? That is incredible!
Also, I love your little baby Dark Chocolate Dreams jar! So cute.
Oh, and I brought crunchy almonds and carrots to class on the first day of school. Bad move. I now eat bananas and Katie’s fudge!!

  12. Mmmm, that is a toss up between cereal and bananas or pancakes! I love both and rarely eat either of them. What is my problem?! Lol!

Your pace is unreal! Awesome girl!

    xxoo

  13. That sounds like a wicked workout! Is your thing right…5 minute miles!!! If you did that you are INSANE!!! 🙂 I am totally one of those people that eats all the time too btw, I LOVE food!! 😉 ooh oats in the jar; I have an almost empty WCW that is destined for some OIAJ within this week! Ah can’t wait! 🙂

  14. fab workout sweetie!

  15. Nice treadmill run!! I just recently started experimenting with the inclines on the treadmill, I’m TRYING to do hills once a week. So far it’s been 2 workouts. 🙂 I always have an absurd amount of food with me at all times too. You never know when you’re going to get the munchies!!!

  16. Nice job on the hills! I really haven’t done any hill work-outs, and they kind of scare me. It’s pretty flat where I live, but I think it I were going to run a race somewhere with hills I’d probably be forced to try training for them.

The scramled tofu looks really good! I’ve never tried tofu as eggs before… I’ve always stuck to extra firm tofu.

  17. It took a little while for me to learn the whole “setting out clothes the day before” trick, too.

And you don’t want to know how long I’ll go with shaving my legs and how little I care if I’m wearing shorts or not… oops…

  18. Ooh and I love hilly workouts!!! We run sprints up this super steep hill in my neighborhood one every other week during xc season. We do like a 30 minute regular run to “warm up” then run these sprints-maybe 300 yrds steep incline!?! and have to do like 10 of them. It feels so great afterwards though! BTW I left another comment..or I thought I did! But since I can’t find it, I thought I’d just leave another saying something totally different! XOXO

  19. I never shave my legs when i go to the gym! hahaha
    Great workout 🙂
I set my workout clothes the night before because everyday i seem to forget something.

  20. Hmmm…what am I looking forward to this week?? Wine tasting and more of your yummy reicpes. I also want to try some hill training… I keep talking about it but never doing it. Tomorrow maybe?!
That cereal also looked heavenly, no wonder your in crazy good shape! The amazing food you eat and your awesome workouts!! Way to go!!
    🙂

  21. DANG that workout is hardcore! i HATE HILLS. HATE HATE HATE… oh dear they just wipe me out for my entire run and then im dead…. i ALWAYS forgett to shave my legs too! yeeps! your dinner looks yummy! and yaya for OIAJ. altho i doubt my oats would fit in that tiny jar!

  22. Looking forward to the home made chocolate dreams! I did a really hilly run yesterday. I love them cause its a bit like doing intervals!

  23. Am super impressed by your treadmill workout, and super excited by your blender action!

But I’m going to have to say this now Emma: you are indeed hopeless in the morning! Every Sunday you’re running late 😀

ps — the guys in the gym must think you’re extra crazy now!!

  24. Nice work on the hill work 🙂
I have a few hills on my running routes, but I dont actually do hill repeats or anything like that. I just tell myself that it is not a hill and slow down a bit. I make it to the top! 🙂
Looking forward to the homemade DCD- I used up the last bit of mine the other week and keep thinking about making a replacement 🙂

  25. AHH! Hills always keep my butt but it does firm up ya toosh so I just do it anyways :D. Your chocolate peanut butter banana soft seve looks ahhh-maaazing!

  26. I see oats in a jar!

  27. woahhh hills! I hate hills!!!! And if you’re running-people can’t see the hairy tempo legs, work it!

  28. I have no choice but to do hill runs because I live on a fell! There are literally NO flat areas at all so speedwork is pretty difficult. Every run for me is a hill run by default, unless I’m stuck on a treadmill *shudders*.

I have to severely restrain myself from eating an entire squash at a time. I have done many times in the past, including once when I got through an entire kabocha that weighed almost 2 kilos (raw weight)!

    xxx

  29. I love dark chocolate dreams (:
Would be great to know how you get on making some, I’m having serious problems tracking the real thing down…not good!
    xxxx

  30. I loveee tofu, so I have no idea why I have yet to make tofu scramble yet! So odd! Yours looks delicious though!!!

Also want to try that chickpea flour pizza crust! yummyyyyy!

    happy week Emma!

  31. Happy Vday, gorgeous!

    Love from another hairy-legged runner.
What, why shave your legs when they’ll be under pants anyway? 😉

  32. ahhaha, it happens. it IS still winter, after all!

those fudge babies? omg. they look delish.

and funny enough, I’m introducing myself to dark chocolate dreams in my post TODAY! such a small world. 🙂
