Celebration time!!

Today is a day for CELEBRATION!! Not just because of my exciting news yesterday (tangent: you are all SO amazingly lovely and I felt so much love from your comments that I hugged myself…yes I’m sad…) but because today is…MY HALF BIRTHDAY!!

I love birthdays. Always have, always will. (Sept 2nd people, write it down NOW! Smile with tongue out)DSC07272

Half birthdays are *almost* as important as the Big Day for me. Possibly because it’s another excuse to eat cake…but birthdays are just the BEST!

Birthday breakfasts rock. Obviously, it was going to be my all-time fave: oatmeal!DSC07241

Triple Coconut Chocolate Oatmeal. Made with coconut milk, and cocoa powder, and topped with coconut butter and unsweetened coconut. YUM! Open-mouthed smile

Birthdays mean doing your favourite things. Like baking.DSC07246DSC07254

I love cookies. Especially giant oatmeal-raisin ones. Can you believe I haven’t had one of these bad boys since I became a vegan?! Well I sure made up for lost time! They were DELISH and many of them were enjoyed…DSC07256

(Recipe from the Happy Herbivore book). I had forgotten how much I LOVE oatmeal-raisin cookies! Never again will I go so long without these in my belly…

Birthdays are for chillaxing, and having a rest day, whilst watching your fave TV shows:DSC04977

Birthdays are also for working towards your dreams, because no matter how much desire you put into that Birthday Wish, it won’t come true unless you put in some effort too…DSC07270

The Birthday Dinner. Ultimate comfort food.DSC07259

(Excuse the slightly dodgy photo- taken halfway through eating! Smile with tongue out)

My mum’s homemade Chunky Vegetable and Bean soup, with mashed potato and broccoli. Comfort food at it’s best. Smile

And then the best bit of any birthday. The cake.DSC07269

Not quite as glorious as the one I had when I was 3…DSC07273

…but just as tasty.DSC07264

Katie’s Banana Muffin for One, with chocolate chips. And I wished really hard and blew out that candle. Can’t tell you what I wished for of course, but I’m sure you can guess…! (hint: yesterday’s post!)

Birthdays are the BEST!! Open-mouthed smile

Do you make a big deal out of birthdays? I LOVE birthdays!! Presents, cake and everyone you love around you…what’s not to like?!

Do you have any birthday traditions? My mum always makes me a nice dinner of my choice. Nothing beats your momma’s food, right?

Where would be your dream place to go on your birthday? New York to see my family, or Hawaii because it’s hot and I’ve always wanted to go!!

Have a great rest of the week friends!!

P.S. THANK YOU for the responses I’ve had to the Featured Athlete posts I’ve had so far! I will email you all back on Friday, k? Smile

And yep, nothing beats mums’ cooking. Ever 🙂

  2. Happy Half Birthday!
You oats always look soooooo creamy and I was just wondering what kind you use. Just regular Old Fashioned? Or are they something special?

This thing needs a spell check.

  4. Haha, Happy Half-Birthday! 😉

I’m loving your single lady cake! And your oats! OHMYGOSH, triple coconut! YES! YES! YES! 🙂

  5. Happy un-birthday!!! Have you ever seen Alice in Wonderland? hehehe
P.S. You should’ve cut the candle, muffin, etc in half :). Well, maybe not the muffin, because a whole is much more fun than a 1/2.

  6. Ahhh HAPPY HALF BIRTHDAY hahaha this is my BIRTHDAY MONTH! MUAHAHAHHHH March 29th yup yup the big 2-1 this year…even though I don’t drink …still pretty monumental!

  7. Happy Half-Birthday!! Love the muffin cake! Celebrating birthdays is the best…I’d love to go to Greece for my bday!

  8. Happy Half-Birthday!! Looks like you celebrated right. Especially with the cookies! Yes, yes, cinnamon raisin oatmeal cookies are lovely 🙂
We don’t make a huge deal out of birthdays, really. I think it’s sort of become more of a relaxed effort as I’ve gotten older! Usually just a nice dinner but not a whole lotta hoopla 😛

  9. omg triple coconut chocolate oatmeal!!?! Why have I never thought of this before! I am so making this tomorrow morning…already got the oats cookin’ 🙂

  10. Happy half-birthday! Those oatmeal cookies look chewy & awesome. A friend of mine bought a package of cookies today, and they were organic & whole grain oatmeal chocolate chip. I usually don’t like pre-packaged cookies, but this one was so good.

  11. Happy Half Birthday! That means my birthday is 5 months away! I’ll officially be an adult on august 2nd. Scary!
You have me craving oatmeal raisin cookies nowww. I don’t make a big deal out of my birthday, but I do for other people. I like to bake and cook for them.

  12. I love birthdays! I try and make a bigger celebration out of other peoples birthday than my own. I like to make people feel really special.

P.s. my cryptonite is oatmeal cookies. Love the post today :).

  13. I’m 30 next year and really want to go back to New York, can’t wait for the wholefoods haul already!

  14. Lol, you were already pulling goofy faces at the age of 3!! 😉

I don’t make a big deal of my birthday, but I’m not a very sentimental person. I do like to make a big deal of other people’s though.

  15. Happy half birthday! 🙂

  16. Happy half birthday! I’m glad that you got to celebrate it with Shemar Moore, who might just be the most beautiful man alive.

  17. haha, I love that you celebrate your half birthday 🙂 Since I have a limited amount of years left in my 20s, I prefer not to celebrate my birthdays because it makes me feel OLD. hehe.

  18. HAHAH LOVE IT.. i never celebrate my half birthday!! BUT thats becuase my half birthday is exactly my brothers birthday.. weird right?!

if i could go anywhere. it would a GIANT THEME PARK with INSANE roller coasters!

  19. Happy Half Birthday Gorgeous(a good excuse to celebrate if there is one:)!

How cute is the infant Emma?!!!

  20. Oh, I’m going to have to get back to my miserable persona and say that I hate birthdays! I always ignore mine because for me they reinforce all the things I haven’t done that I ‘should’ have, and how far behind my peers I am in terms of lack of achievement.

    I like other people’s though and I think it’s so sweet that you celebrate a half-birthday 🙂

P.S Sadly those comments I get at the gym are, verbatim, accurate. I have had even worse ones at previous gyms…perhaps I invite such remarks because I wear rather short shorts owning to the fact I get so hot exercising, so any changes in size are really noticable.

  21. I’m like you, girlfriend. I LOVE birthdays, and I make such a big deal out of them. wahoooo, happy half!! 🙂

  22. SUCH an uplifting post! Yay 😀
The cookies look so delicious! Haven’t had oatmeal raisin for too long!
Haven’t really got any birthday traditions…think I need to make some! xxxx

  23. Wow your 3rd birthday partys cake is so extravagant! I Love it… I was just thinking this morning that my half birthday was in 2 days 🙂 I’m trying to think of how to celebrate it!!

  24. Damn it – I missed my half birthday … it would have been Feb 4th. I’ll put it in my diary for next year – or maybe I could celebrate my three-quarter birthday? I don’t want to get any older though!
I don’t really have any birthday traditions – although I do always try to include a picnic (the joys of a summer birthday – albeit an English summer!)

  25. Ha! Happy Half Birthday!! I love celebrating my brithday. It’s usually a week long affair meeting up with friends and family across the week to celebrate. It’s my birthday in a few weeks and I cannot wait!!! 😀

  26. Happy half birthday!!

  27. Sorry I’m a little bit late, but happy half birthday!!! Next week is my actual birthday and I’m getting really excited!!

Also, congrats on running for Team Poverty!! I did my first triathlon with Team in Training (raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society). It was a LOT of work to raise the money, but SO rewarding! Let me know if you need any help with fund-raising ideas!:)
