Fire shoes

Hey friends! Smile

I am SO excited! Yesterday night, after reading your opinions on my running shoes (majority orange > green, and I agree!), I decided to go ahead and order the orange. BUT the orange shoes in my size had gone out of stock! Surprised smileThe green wasn’t though…was it a sign? I kept looking though, and found some similar but even better shoes!

Fire shoes!

Saucony Lady Grid Type A3 racing flats! They’re a better model (lighter etc.) than the other ones, and actually worked out cheaper too on Wiggle, even though they are normally much more expensive! Seeing that there was only one pair left in my size, it was a mad rush to find my credit card and order in time before some other evil person snatched them up, but I got them! And can’t wait till they arrive!!! My feet will look like they’re on fire! Open-mouthed smile

I had an ‘easy’ run today to stretch out my legs after all the speedwork, and I really loved it! I took a different route spur-of-the-moment, got a little lost when dreaming about the Fire Shoes, but eventually found my way back in the rain!

Runner's high!

< 5 miles in 38 mins. I wanted to go further, but had to quickly change and get ready for BodyPump!

Biceps are the hardest. Hands down. Squats are the most fun! Smile

I found my new favourite pre-workout snack by the way!

DSC05793

What. A. Dork.

It’s called Dippy Banana. Instead of spreading nut butter on your banana, you just go ahead and dip it right in there! Dip, munch, dip, munch. Awesome. You need drippy nut butter (like my almond butter) by the way, and trust me, you’ll never want to go back to the traditional/boring spreading. Double dipping is much more fun! Smile with tongue outbanana_peanutbutter

This totally made me dream of banana-nut butter muffins/cookies. I don’t know if they exist, but I must make some! Smile

Snackage also included baked beans on some delicious toasted pumpkin seed rye bread from The Haul. The pumpkin seeds made this bread- such a great texture and flavour!DSC05779

‘Baked beans?!’ I hear you scoff. Well, just half a can provides 1/4 of your RDA of protein! So take that baked bean prudes! Smile with tongue out I, of course, had the whole can. Never do things by halves.DSC05781 “Baked beans are good for the heart…” I’ll pretend I’ve forgotten the rest of the words! Winking smile

So my Monday was pretty awesome! Made all the more so by seeing Jemma’s amazing Nakd bar giveaway! I recently won her last giveaway, and am still loving the 30 Mule Bars I won as a result! Fingers crossed for a second win! Smile with tongue out

So I’m interested to hear what you think about when you’re running/working out. I usually think about things happening in my life (Fire Shoes!), or play imaginary games with myself, like pretend there are dragons chasing me or something. Because in my head I am still an 8 year old. So what do you think about?

Also, what is your favourite pre-workout snack? If it’s a long run, my standard is peanut butter+banana sandwich before, but a normal run is a Dippy Banana now! Open-mouthed smile

Hope you had a great Monday too! Smile

P.S. My Tone-Up strength training challenge starts today! Good luck to those who’re joining me with it! I have taken my embarrassing ‘Before’ photo and measurements, so can’t wait for the results!!

Spin, Confessions, and Kitchen Antics

Hey friends! Smile

Today was my last day of freedom before getting back to the routine tomorrow. So I made it a good one! Open-mouthed smile I’m also going to try to get in a early speedwork run tomorrow mornin’, but I’ve never been good at early starts…

Confession #1: I hit the ‘off’ button on my alarm clock instead of the snooze button. So I missed BodyPump Sad smile. But I still made it in time for spin though, which was amazing!spin-bike

(source)

Confession #2: When the instructor asked if anyone was new, I didn’t raise my hand. I just went along with it! Smile with tongue out(I know I should have done, and if you are taking a new class, you should let the instructor know if it is your first time!)

My thoughts

  • Such a great workout! This class gave me the toughest cardio workout I think out of all the classes I’ve been to!
  • Love the mix of high-impact and low-impact stuff. The class is mixed up with sprint sections, slow high-resistance sections, etc.
  • Great use of music (Black Eyed Peas ‘Pump It’ for sprints= pure genius) and instructor was great.
  • My legs were dead afterwards. This class is obviously great for the leg muscles! Spin instructors (*cough Janae cough*) must have leg muscles of steel!

I actually don’t have any negatives at all for this class! I will defo be going back when I can!

DSC05354

Runner's high? No, spinner's high!

Confession #3: I had to dash straight after class to make it to my dentists appointment, so didn’t have time to shower. Sorry Dr. Lincoln.

After spin and the dentist (and then a shower!), pretty much the whole rest of the day was spent in the kitchen!DSC05365

I made an awesome lunch, based on Freya’s recipe for Spicy Pumpkin, Red Lentil and Chickpea Smush, but with a few small tweaks (re.g. ran out of chickpeas, so used canned mixed pulses, etc). Delish!DSC05364

Then it was time to get ma bake on! First up was raspberry scones, from this god-send of a recipe book (Babycakes) that I have been raving about non-stop since I got it. And it did not disappoint.DSC05309

I love raspberries.DSC05380

I love making delicious baked goods.DSC05404

I love that vegan goodies can be just as good (or better in this case!) than non-vegan.DSC05409

I love all that stuff so much, that once I had finished those, it was on to the next thing. Chocolate cupcakes with chocolate buttercream. (From the same book). I’m going to a get-together thing tomorrow evening, and there’s going to be a buffet. (Alert the Buffet Monster!) Smile with tongue out So this is my offering!

DSC05424

My trick that I learned from the last time I baked cupcakes, was to make the buttercream first. That way, you can chill it so it’ll be ready to pipe once the cakes are done!

DSC05430

Wrapped tightly in film and refrigerated.

Ooooh buttercream…DSC05432

Tell me you love buttercream as much as I do, and we will be BFF. Seriously. DSC05434

DSC05436

Of course, cake and buttercream didn’t provide quite enough sugar to feed my friends with. There had to be more.DSC05447

Sugar stars. Win.DSC05453

Confession #4: There was a lot of leftover buttercream. Any guesses where most of it ended up? Winking smile

Man I wanted to eat one of those cupcakes so bad! I just had to content myself with consuming the leftover buttercream. Not a bad trade-off really!  Buttercream > Cake to me. But you all know who’s gonna be first to the buffet table tomorrow to nab one of those bad boys! Open-mouthed smile

So are you more of a buttercream/frosting person or a cake person? If you didn’t get the oh-so-subtle message from this post, I’m a buttercream+frosting gal! And have you ever tried spin? Thoughts?

“Colds are bums”

What can I say, I have regressed to my childish self! This was a common phrase I used when I was younger- everything bad was “a bum”. Well this cold really is! So I decided to give myself a head start in my recovery with my breakfast- a Recovery Green Monster:DSC03780

Well, this was actually just a regular GM topped with Grape Nuts, but GM’s are chock full of vitamins, iron and all sorts of other good stuff, so bring on the quick recovery! Smile

And what is the second best way to cure colds after Green Monsters? Retail therapy of course! Smile with tongue outarticle-0-01AEDF4800000578-22_468x315_popup

This is the Bluewater shopping centre- the second largest in the UK! I love it Smile

I decided to look around the book store first, as one of the Christmas presents I opened last week was a gift card for Waterstones. I came across ‘The Kind Diet’…DSC04499

…and basically spent half an hour reading it in store! I’m pretty sure this isn’t allowed, but it seemed quite good! I also seriously contemplated buying this book:DSC04500

It seemed really good- tons of good recipes and every one had pictures! I love recipe books with pictures! Smile

Other buys included some running gloves (I had a £5 Sweatshop voucher I had to use by today, and so they came to £3!) and two lots of dark chocolate:DSC04509

DSC04510DSC04504

I also saw the movie ‘Unstoppable’, which was really good! So exciting the whole way through! I may have consumed a fair amount of dark chocolate whilst watching…! Winking smile

unstoppable1

I bought lunch from a cafe- I had organic tomato and basil soup, with brown bread.DSC04502

I had this light lunch at about 4pm, because I have spent the whole day snacking! Eats included about a thousand servings of my (addictive!) favourite granola:DSC04497

A Trek bar:DSC04498

Rice cakes topped with Marmite and PB:DSC04399

Almonds:DSC04518

And a ton of other unpictured things! It’s just one of those days…

Because of all the snacking, dinner was light too, and was good old beans on toast (my homemade bread!):DSC04513

Followed by soya yoghurt and a huge blob strawberry jam:DSC04516

I then proceeded to finish off the jam by eating it straight from the jar! I do love jam! Smile with tongue outDSC04517

As soon as I got back, some serious present wrapping ensued!DSC04519

DSC04520

My group of close friends and I do a ‘Secret Santa’ every year, which is great because it saves you money, is more fun, and you get a better present that you actually want! This is for my Secret Santa:DSC04526

It’s a CD and a book that she requested, so I know she’ll love it! I can’t wait to see what I get! Open-mouthed smile

So tell me, what are the best movies you’ve seen recently? Unstoppable makes my list, as does HP7 obviously! And what are your favourite snacks?

Hope you’ve had a great weekend! Smile

Christmas decorating!

I LOVE CHRISTMAS! I am SO excited- less than three weeks people! Seriously, Christmas makes me feel like a kid all over again! Open-mouthed smile

Yesterday night, we got to decorating! Our tree:DSC04385

Buddy helped.DSC04372

Actually, that’s a lie. He observed from his comfy chair for the most part. Lazy dog!DSC04377

We hung up our stockings, which are pretty big! Our mum made them for me and my brother when we were toddlers, and we still love them!DSC04389

Even Buddy gets (a little) one!DSC04386

His says ‘Yappy Christmas’! Witty, right? Smile with tongue out

Food time! Lunch today was a lovely bean salad.IMG_9974

To satisfy my sweet tooth after dinner this evening, I ate my body weight in dark chocolate! As per usual! Smile with tongue outDSC04364

This Planet Organica dark chocolate is one of my favourites I think! I’ve gone through almost all of this in a few days! Smile with tongue out A good reason to revisit Whole Foods soon and stock up then I think! Winking smile

My ankle is feeling quite a lot better by the way, and thanks for your well wishes and comments/stories on yesterday’s post! I’m still going to probably not run for the rest of this week to be safe, but I have an aerobics class tomorrow, and a step class the day after that, then yoga on Friday! So keeping busy Smile

Are you excited about Christmas this year? I actually wasn’t very excited about it last year, so it does vary for me! And do you use Christmas stockings? Not quite sure if that’s just a family tradition or not…!

Have a great evening! Smile

Protein time!

Hello! Hope you’ve all had a great weekend! Smile

Yesterday updates: I baked some more Apple and Cinnamon bread! I love this stuff!DSC03930

Seriously, after having home-made bread, shop bought never tastes half as good!DSC03932

I ended up having a lot of this! I guess something can be said for shop bought, in that portion control is much easier when it’s pre-sliced! Smile with tongue out One of the other snacks I had in the day was this:

DSC03934

Upping the fat and protein intake! This was leftover from my last Graze box, and I’d actually never tried a brazil nut before…hmmm…DSC03941

….I have to say, I think this is possibly my favourite nut! Yummy! I could eat a thousand of these!

Last night’s dinner was whole-wheat spaghetti, and I used the spinach trick I mentioned a few posts ago:DSC03935

DSC03936

Then added chopped tomatoes and kidney beans (random, but they’re my favourite bean, so I have them with everything Smile)DSC03938

In other news, I am trying not to consume much soya milk now. Recently I have been having a really dodgy tummy after breakfast, and I think that may be because of the soya milk I have. And that also explains my tummy troubles during my run on Thursday, as I had soya milk about an hour before I ran! So, I am now trying out different types of milk. This week, it is the turn of:DSC03944

Oat milk! It’s no secret that I love oats, so we’ll see if I love oat milk just as much! Lets hope my stomach does anyway! Smile I’m also planning on trying coconut, almond and rice milk, to see which I like the best!

I’ve also ordered this:41b -QxJ4PL

I can’t wait to try this when it arrives! I’ve wanted to try a vegan protein powder for ages, and this was recommended by a friend, so I thought I’d give it a go! But am annoyed, because I literally just saw that they sell it on Amazon for the same price, but with free delivery! I had to pay over £3 for mine, which is quite a lot seeing as it’s only one small item! Annoyed

Tomorrow, I am planning on doing some baking! I’m thinking of breaking open one of the precious remaining stock of:DSC03288

Can’t wait to get my bake on! Open-mouthed smile

What’s your favourite type of nut? Mine, as I said, is currently brazil I think, but almonds and pecans are pretty darned good too… And do you use protein powder? If so, what kind?

Chocolate’s all gone.

It truly is a sad time. The last of my beloved Belgian dark chocolate is no more.DSC03814

That was all that was left when I dove into my food stash post-dinner. Sad smileDSC03815

Alas, now it is no more. Crying face What is a girl to do?

Answer: find a good recipe to bake tomorrow! Smile You’ll see tomorrow evening hopefully!

Breakfast was a lovely bowl of creamy oatmeal topped with raisins:DSC03807

And this was the star of lunch (a big salad monster)- the mother of all beans:DSC03813

I could quite easily write a love poem about the kidney bean. Red heart

Dinner was one of my favourites- Chana masala.

chana-masala

I sadly cannot take the credit here- my mum is Indian and does all the Indian cooking around here! Smile with tongue out Really delicious; chickpeas are ALMOST as good as kidney beans to me, and trust me when I say that is very  high praise indeed! Open-mouthed smile

And before dinner, I embarked on a speedy 3 miler (avg pace 8.28) in the cold and dark:DSC03701

Such a cool look! Enjoyed it, despite the weather! Off to do a bit of yoga before bed. I WILL be able to do the Pose of a Crow someday! Smile

Brief post tonight, but expect a long recipe one tomorrow, I’m warning ya! Smile with tongue out

Favourite dinners? Chana Masala is definitely on my list Smile
